About This Retreat

The Satipatthana Sutra is a discourse outlining a framework for exploration of our human condition.  We humans, are always seeking to overcome our confusion and find our way to the path that leads to attenuation and eventual alleviation of unnecessary suffering.  According to Gautama Buddha, the Four Satipathanna or correct application of mindfulness upon four foundations is the direct path to clarity, happiness, and peace.

This retreat is will complete the critical study and practical exploration that is foundational to all Buddha Dharma practice in whatever form such teachings and practices may take.  Having some understanding of the form and content of the Satipatthana Sutta; body, feeling, mental states, Dharmas, serve to guide the practical exploration of Anapanasati, or mindfulness of in and out breathing.  This where the practitioner learns the what and how to practice.

The great teacher Buddhadasa Bhikku states that “Anapanasati is the heart of Satipatthana, the heart of all four foundations of mindfulness” and that the “16 steps of Anapanasati are a straight forward and clear practice to transform our mind, liberating us from samsaric or cycling existence through the six worlds, and guiding the entrance to Nirvana. “

This retreat will follow the usual Hollow Bones Zen format which includes the morning service, meditation practice, movement practice, dharma talks and large group discussion. Participants will have an opportunity to receive direct instructions from Emyo through question and answer periods. Please see the retreat schedule posted below for the event details.

Join Emyo and the leadership in a weekend of Mindfulness practice in our virtual retreat sangha in the comfort of your home.

Emyo’s clear and compassionate teachings allowed me to have realizations about myself, the people I care most about, and the world at large in a context I never would’ve reached without her insights.

About Emyo Darlene Tataryn - Dharma Teacher

A pioneer, Darlene has been doing the work since the early 70's. Her depth insight comes from working deeply with somatic healing, dance therapy, developmental and expressive movement, meditation, and other "mystic" practices. She is the creator of the Asaya Process and Maitreya's Chair; two practices which open this breathing body into receptivity, release tension, realign the spine, and bring the body into natural, blissfully calming, self-healing cycles.

As a long time Meditation instructor and Counselor with an Expressive Therapy Bias, Darlene understands and is able to navigate between the disciplines of therapy and meditation. She is steeped in the understanding of the interconnection and interdependence of all of nature. As a Zen Priest and Mondo Zen facilitator, she is able to guide and orient healthy ego function to the service of clarity and depth of heart and mind.
