Off the Cushion: Compassion in Daily Living - Online Training Program

Off the cushion

Compassion in Daily Living

with Ekai Joel Kreisberg & Fugen Tom Pitner Roshi

Six Week Online Program

October 10th - November 14th, 2023

Tuesdays 7:30 pm ET - 9:00 pm ET

While it is often considered essential to attend to our daily meditation practice, most modern practitioners will find that attending to compassion and heart opening rather then dhyana practice (emptiness) often brings lasting changes in how we live others. This six week training program will introduced a series of practices designed to awaken ones heart towards deep compassion for all beings. Through guided meditations, small group exercises, and contemporary Buddhist teachings on unconditional love and compassion, this course will support awakening to the transcendence and power of love.

Course Outline

  • October 10th - Four Modes of Compassion

  • October 17th - Exchanging Self with others

  • October 24th - Receiving Love

  • October 31st - Chekawa’s Four Preparations

  • November 7th - The Power of Love

  • November 14th - Loving Beyond Boundaries

Students will meet for dokusan with Fugen Roshi twice during this training program.

This program will be using the text

I was pleasantly surprised with the course. I did not expect to get as much intellectual information and yet it completely dovetailed with the experiential portion of the course. Ekai and Fugen were masterful at explaining it all in ways that I will remember for a long time!
