Faces of Compassion - Spring Practice Period 2025
Vimalakirti Bodhisattva
The Thunderous Silence of the Unsurpassed Layman
Dharma Talk by Ekai Joel Kreisberg
Saturday, May 17th
9:00 am - 11:00 am ET (New York)
Online
Join us for the last of the seven bodhisattva archetypes from Taigen Dan Leighton’s Faces of Compassion. This session explores Vimalakirti as a Bodhisattva archetype. Vimalakirti is unique in that he is not a mythic bodhisattva, rather he is a householder living in Vaisali, India. Hi is not an actual historical disciple of the Buddha. Yet, there is a Sutra devoted to his story. Known as the Golden Grain Tathagata, Vimalakirti and his Sutra are not central to any school of Buddhism. Yet, Vimalakirti is a layman, critical of of the monastic disciples of the Buddha. Join us for a look into his wisdom and power.
Share with the sangha as we listen to the reflections of senior dharma teacher Ekai Joel Kreisberg, followed by question and response. After a short break you are invited to our weekly morning service and zazen practice.
The Spring Practice Period is open to anyone.
There is no fee for this event. A donation requested.
